In this episode, I’m giving you a sneak peek into the contents of my book, Wedding With Intention.
After working as a wedding planner for 5 years I noticed that the process of planning a wedding was not as joyful as it was supposed to be.
There was pressure, stress, pain, and I did not like that my clients felt that way!
So I started to unpack why we do weddings the way we do, and how we’ve landed in this state.
My ultimate conclusion? It doesn’t have to be this way.
I believe weddings have lost track of their true meaning. And that’s not to say that having a big glamorous wedding with all of the details is without meaning. What I am saying is that there is so much more depth and intention to be found in this process that just isn’t being talked about.
I believe the wedding industry is behind some incredible damaging messaging, especially for women and femme-identifying folks, and I think it is one of the last industries to be disrupted and called into question for the consumerist and, again, damaging messages that they pedal.
Just to be clear, when I say the wedding industry I don’t mean the small business owners, like wedding photographers and caterers. I mean the big brand sand advertisers who continue to proliferate messages that encourage overspending and body shaming.
Bride Disrupted is about disrupting the hugely influential bridal culture that exists within Western society, and offering those who seek more connection and meaning in their lives a different narrative about weddings, and most importantly, marriage.
Last year I wrote and self-published a book called Wedding With Intention, which is a workbook and guide that leads you step by step through the process of planning an intention wedding.
I wrote Wedding With Intention because I saw the struggles my clients faced and began to ponder how I would plan my own wedding. I wanted to create a framework to help couples through the challenging conversations and the logistics-heavy aspects of planning a wedding.
I’m going to kick this podcast off was by reading you the Introduction of Wedding With Intention which is really my thesis for this work.
Before we start I just want to warn you; This might get uncomfortable. The content that we’re going to cover here is going to challenge your beliefs. It’s completely normal to feel that way. I ask that you stick with it.
You are not bad for believing the things you do. And it’s ok to hear this and STILL want the big, traditional wedding.
My mission as a coach is to help you feel more connected to your relationships and to your true self.
So this is just about helping you to figure out what’s actually important to you, so that you can find joy and significance in the process as part of your commitment to wholehearted living.
